In the Business workshop the students participated in hands-on activities designed to improve their ability to interact with customers, coworkers and their peers. Students got to participate in interactive exercises. Students now know methods to effectively communicate and demonstrate proper email etiquette. They learned computer software such as google excel to track cost and spending (data visualization and analysis spreadsheet) CAD (computer aided design software) to create ideas and their designs for their gardens. They learned how to communicate the documentation produced through visual and verbal aids so that it can be easily understandable.
With having to go online the students now had to learn how to become active listeners and strong speakers with a set of activities that range from discussions, and self reflection and use their social media skills and non-verbal communication as ways that people communicate with each other.

BUSINESS CLASS PROJECTS
I have been working with the students on communication skills through roll playing, bonding activity and learning how to budget there money using excel. Interns learned the importance to develop a variety of skills for both communication to others and learning how to interpret the information received from others. They did this by doing group projects, problem solving in excel and critical thinking to get there projects done. Interns learned how to conduct professional emails, speaking confident while presenting their projects and talking about their budgets.
Students used their skills they obtained in business class with Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, Google Forms, Online communication, writing.
This summer we collaborated with PIC to offer the interns four professional development workshops with Nisol Galvao from Early Investors. Nislo spoke to the interns on financial planning, credit scores & credit cards along with Investing with Robert LoRe. The interns got to apply some of these skills to their business workshop and project.
This summer through collaboration CSTO’s Square Tech business workshop and Winn management we came together to work with Cameron Melo to create a garden business project. These young interns began exploring the roll of gardeners/business owners who are responsible for and capable of sustaining a garden, learning and understanding what it is to have a beautiful garden and how to maintain and budget for it.
The interns worked in groups to work on designing their plot, understanding which plants would thrive in that area and how to budget for the plants. The interns went on field trip to the Greenway to witness how local plants are grown and how successful they are thriving due to the care of volunteers and the city. Together we learned a little about plants, sunlight, shrubs, soil, water and how much it costs to have and maintain such a garden.
Through this collaboration the students learned to work together as a group, communicate, create and maintain a budget and design a layout using CAD. Youth have been documenting the process and created presentations to showcase their garden.
